HCC’s Kamryn ‘Kam’ Thomas signs with Division I Omaha
Hutchinson Community College All-American Kamryn “Kam” Thomas signed a letter of intent to play basketball at NCAA Division I Omaha (the University of Nebraska-Omaha) Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
“Omaha wasgoodddd!!! #committed,” Thomas posted on his X/Twitter account about signing for the Omaha Mavericks, which competes in the Summit League.
Omaha men’s basketball coach Chris Crutchfield got the commitment from Thomas on Sunday.
Hutchinson finished the season with a 29-7 record and lost to Connors State, Okla., in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament March 24-30.
Thomas, a 6-foot-8 sophomore from Chicago Dream City Prep, averaged 16.2 points and 6.1 rebounds a game for the Blue Dragons in 2023-24.
Thomas, who was named a Third Team All-American by the NJCAA, had 57 assists and 34 steals for the Blue Dragons.
Thomas shot 47.5% from the floor (including 34.1% from 3point range) and 78.2% from the free throw line.
Thomas played his freshman year at North Idaho College in 2022-23, where he averaged 9.7 points and 4.8 rebounds a game.
Omaha’s season ended with a 66-63 loss to the University of Denver in the Summit League Tournament semifinals. Omaha defeated North Dakota 73-72 in the quarterfinals.
Omaha finished the season with an overall record of 15-18 (7-9 in the Summit League).
