Local voice tackles depths of addiction in new novel
For local resident Dakotah Sanders, having a book published was not something he expected when he started writing.
“I, honestly, just wanted to see if I could write a book”, Sanders said. “I could have never imagined the life of its own that would grow. I let a few people read some pages and their encouragement made me decide to take it seriously and see what happens”.
Sanders was born and raised in Hutchinson. He currently works at Horizons Mental Health Center and is attending Fort Hays State University, for his bachelor's Degree in pursuit of a master’s in social work to become a therapist. He spent five years going to Hutchinson Community College part-time to get his associate's degree and graduated from HCC in May of 2023.
After many years of battling addiction, through the selling and use of drugs, he discovered his passion while on his road to recovery. Through his time at the Oxford Sober Living House, he realized his path was leading him to help others who shared his journey.
