Reno County House Members push local highway tribute
TOPEKA - A bipartisan group of Reno County Kansas House Members sponsored a bill Thursday that would rename a portion of K-96 Highway as the “96th Infantry Division Memorial Highway.”
Reps. Jason Probst, Paul Waggoner, Joe Seiwert and Michael Murphy sponsored HB 2575 to designate the intersection with 56th Avenue to Nickerson Road after the infantry division.
According to the testimony given by Seiwert, at least four Reno County residents died in the 96th infantry, also known as the “Deadeye Division,” during World War II.
The bill was referred to the committee on transportation and was combined with HB 2841, which would rename a portion of the same highway in Haven city limits.
