Soroptimist Women's Show & Family Health Fair at fairgrounds on Sat
The Hutchinson chapter of Soroptimists International will hold the 21st annual Women's Show on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Meadowlark Building at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Admission is free and open to the public.
The women's show vendors include many boutiques offering clothing, purses and jewelry, crafts, food and snacks, and services such as insurance. More than 100 vendors will be present, many attending for the first time.
The family health fair, a partnership with PrairieStar Health Center, will offer free cardiovascular, vision and oral cancer screenings. Informational booths will help people learn about many topics, from medical insurance and Medicare to mental health and strokes. The health fair’s hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Soroptimist Women's Show was suggested by then-President Deana Novak in 2002 and has grown since then. She noted that many men attend the event, and the turnout averages 1,700 people.
"It's free. Come and enjoy the events!" Novak said.
The women’s show and health fair events are run by the Hutchinson chapter of Soroptimist International, a business and professional women’s organization whose mission is to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and worldwide.
The Hutchinson Club was chartered in 1947 and has contributed to the local community through events and financial support. In addition to the Women's Show, the club sponsors two $1,500 Live Your Dream Awards, which support single-parent female heads of household in furthering their education. They also recognize high school senior girls who volunteer in the community with the Community Impact Award, which includes $500 for the volunteer and $250 for the volunteer organization.
