Tax policy bipartisanship, minimum wage and Medicaid expansion were all main topics at Saturday’s Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Forum Event, with Reps. Michael Murphy of Sylvia, Jason Probst of Hutchinson and Paul Waggoner of Hutchinson.
Probst said in his opening remarks at the forum that taxes were a large success in the forum. He said the bill passed the house unanimously and is on its way to Governor Laura Kelly.
“The thing that was really astounding to me was the conversation on taxes,” Probst said. “I think there’s a lot of talk about the disagreements, but the fact that something is big as tax policy and 120 agreeing on ‘this is a good tax plan’ and they do it twice, this is historic. I think that’s something to be commended.”
Senate Substitute for H.B. 2036 passed the house in a 119-0 vote and cleared the senate 24-9. All local legislators, including Senator Mark Steffen, voted for the passage of the bill.
